TAC, PC, CR-39, nylon: what your lens is actually made of
By the OSAWALLA editorial team · 2026-09-10 · 7 min de lectura

TAC is a laminated polarizing film stack. It is light and cheap, it cuts glare well, and it is the usual choice for sunglasses — including our Sport range.
PC (polycarbonate) is the impact-resistant one. It is what safety eyewear is made of, and it takes a coating well. It is slightly less optically pure than CR-39.
CR-39 is the standard optical plastic for prescription lenses: good clarity, moderate impact, reasonable weight.
Nylon (often sold as Trivex-type material) is the lightest and the most impact-resistant of the three clear materials, at the highest cost. It is the material to choose if you want prescription lenses in a light frame.
